SUPERVISOR WATCH

Well it appears that Naomi Villa is at it again. According to some officer accounts, after she had been quiet for a while, she once again has attempted to belittle an officer. Rest assure that Chapter 116 is going to take action and although management may decide not to do anything right now we feel that eventually with enough documented accounts and pressure they will not have a choice. So, the message to Villa and any other run away supervisor....show respect, be fair and we will all enjoy our jobs.

1. Nogales
2. Lukeville
3. Douglas
4 San Luis
5. Naco
6. Phoenix Air
7. Sasabe

These rankings are determined by the amount of complaints, grievances received and perceived morale. Also, a factor is the lack of good leadership. Our goal with management is to change the name of list to best port rankings and have them all pretty even.
ELECTIONS
As most of you already know elections were held for the office of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer in December 2008. The winners were Joey Martin for the office of President, Rudy Di Bene for Vice President and there were no candidates for the office of secretary nor treasurer. Joey Martin then appointed Ivan Gonzalez to the office of Secretary and by way of Executive Board (eboard) vote, upon the recommendation and motion of Ivan Gonzalez, Joe Di Bene was appointed to the office of Treasurer by unanimous vote.
We would like to take this time to bid a farewell and thank you to the outgoing NTEU Chapter 116 Eboard members which are Ron Mann, Sr. Ron Mann, Jr., Michelle Shaughnessy and Marc Casella. Thanks for all the hard work you did.
The new eboard has many new challenges ahead of them, but you will see that you will get a 100% effort from every one of them. The President Joey Martin and the Vice President have already visited the ports of entry in the cities of San Luis, Nogales, Douglas and Naco. Plans to visit Sasabe, Lukeville, Phoenix and Tucson are currently being worked on so rest assure we are coming to a city near you.
On January 17, 2009 this current administration's eboard held their first meeting in preparing to bring the best representation possible to it's members. We know that without you we can not do this and there is power in numbers! After 8 years of being under an administration that did everything in their power to abolish unions we are greeted with a breath of fresh air by the victory of President Barack Obama who has promised to take a deep look into everything that the outgoing administration did to make it so hard for the labor movement. Either way you better believe we are going to keep a watchful eye on this administration also.
UNION DUES
Back in mid 2008 a membership meeting was held in Yuma, Arizona. One of the items on the agenda was the raising of dues. The biggest reason for doing this was due to the increase of disciplinary actions being levied by management. The increase will allow us to invoke arbitration on more cases and to allow the president and vice president to travel for more on site visits.
The increase will also allow us to seek and possibly hire our own attorneys to file civil suits on members of management that abuse their authority. This will allow us to level the playing field and offer us more options when it comes to combating run away supervisors/managers.
Please do not hesitate to contact any union official if you should still have any questions. Remember, that without you none of this is possible.
